Visuals are powerful persuasive medium toprovide most of our information about the world.

This proposes that the visual is everythingthat can be seen and which is produced orcreated by humans for the purpose ofvisual representations that has functions,content and communicative purpose.

1. Design signifcance

  • Symbolism and Imagery 

Symbols and images may be understood differently by different cultures, and designers need to be mindful of cultural interpretations to avoid misunderstandings or offense.

  • Typography and Language

It is important to choose fonts and text styles that are culturally appropriate, and to consider language differences and accurate translations to better reach diverse audiences.

  • Color Considerations

Colors have different symbolic meanings in different cultures, and understanding these cultural associations can help make appropriate design choices.

PROJECT 1——Proposal
• 200-word write-up defining and interpreting the theme in
relation to the chosen cultural elements.
• Citation is necessary as evidence to the research.
• A minimum of 3 preliminary ideas in detailed sketches, each
with individual rationale.
• Visual references (visuals that inspire/influence those ideas).
• Reference list

PROJECT 2

PROJECT 02- Data Collection

Data collection methods:

  • Observational research - documenting details and features of everyday design.
  • Interviews with relevant stakeholders - guest speakers can be contacted for insights.
  • Online and field research - exploring cultural elements such as people, art, symbols, architecture, text, calligraphy, etc.

Task Requirements:

  • Protect and preserve collected materials in an appropriate manner.
  • Accompany with clear instructions that accurately convey important information about each piece of material.
  • Enhance the depth of research through real-world experiences.
  • Apply research skills to explore different cultures and document findings in an appropriate manner.

FINAL PROJECT 

1. need to create a jitterbug page that serves as a cultural journal to record and share observations and experiences of everyday design.

2. after completing research, data collection, classroom study and proposal submission, creatively express insights through short videos to communicate selected cultural themes to a wider audience and promote understanding and appreciation of everyday design.
