REFLECTION
Experience
I learned the importance of diverse research methods. By using multiple research methods (such as interviews and focus groups), players' views on visual design elements can be explored in depth. At the same time, the flexibility of semi-structured interviews allows researchers to dig deeper into complex topics and gain rich insights.
In addition, I also learned how to improve the accuracy of data collection and analysis. Using detailed participant feedback, it is possible to reveal how factors such as color, texture, and emotional expression enhance players' immersion. During the data analysis process, the identification of repeated patterns and key insights through thematic analysis provided clearer conclusions for the research.
Finally, exploring the application of cultural elements in character design is also a great gain for me. This integration not only enhances players' sense of belonging, but also enhances the authenticity of the game experience, bringing players a deeper cultural resonance and emotional connection.
Observations
I've found that there are significant differences in preferences for visual elements across different player groups. For example, some players pay more attention to details, while others care more about the harmonious beauty of the overall composition.
Players' acceptance of cultural elements largely depends on their authenticity and the designer's in-depth understanding and accurate presentation of the cultural background.
In addition, while visual design is one of the core elements of player engagement, it needs to work in conjunction with other design elements such as narrative depth, sound design, and interactivity to create a complete and engaging game experience.
Finding
Bright colors and high-resolution textures are believed to significantly enhance a character's realism and appeal. In addition, the harmonious distribution of elements in the design also contributes to the overall appeal of the character. Characters' expressions and body language play an important role in establishing emotional resonance with players, and characters that show emotional depth can effectively increase player engagement and empathy. Character design with cultural background can enhance players' sense of participation and investment, but stereotypes need to be avoided during the design process. By introducing real and in-depth cultural elements, it can not only make the characters more attractive, but also provide players with cultural education subtly and promote the spread and understanding of culture.
